Personalization

Emotion-oriented computing

Computational-Intelligence-based modelling

My research focuses on Computational-Intelligence approaches to machine learning, and uses HCI and usability engineering as a domain in which explore the behavior of learning algorithms. Past work on multivariate statistics methods, fuzzy logic application for evaluation and design in human factors engineering and industrial design. Current work includes computational-intelligence-based machine learning and its application to human factors, adaptive interfaces, personalization, user modeling, emotion-oriented computing and web intelligence.

Research Experience

1979-present

For measuring, modelling, evaluation and design I develop methods and relevant software based on fuzzy logic, neural networks, particle swarm optimization, control theory and multivariate statistics.

Collaboration on 50 research projects, from them 19 international in the areas of Ergonomics, Human-Computer Interaction and Industrial Design Engineering. Proposals and acquisition of projects mainly from local industries (Bulgaria, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago), also from state (Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago), EC and CARICOM. In these 50 projects principle of 18 projects, co-principle of 3 projects and vice-principle of 9 projects. Most of the results of projects applied in industry including also 17 software packages and programs. In 2005 I created a usability lab at Fatih University, Istanbul, Turkey.

The results of the research projects were published in 129 publicaitons:
