Promoting Usability Practices Within the Caribbean Industry | Providing Usability Services, Resources and Facilities for the Caribbean IT Industry

2.1 Our goals

The UWI Usability Laboratory is a research center/laboratory within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of the West Indies. The Usability Laboratory is available for hire by both commercial and research-oriented organizations. Users of the usability Laboratory include academic researchers, freelance usability consultants including those that belong to the usability Laboratory, as well as IT designers and developers. The usability Laboratory can be used also for teaching more than 10 courses.

The usability Laboratory's predominant focus is the application of usability practices in products/IT development. Our two main goals are to promote and facilitate the use of usability practices within the Caribbean industry through the provision of usability testing facilities, resources and services.

2.1.1 Promoting usability Practices Within the Caribbean Industry

The failure of many computer-based systems to be effective in meeting users' requirements, and to be efficient in how they do so, has motivated our desire to promote usability practices and principles. We regard the needs of the users to be an integral part of any IT development project.

2.1.2 Providing Usability Services, Resources and Facilities for the Caribbean Industry

Our goal has been to establish a comprehensive usability laboratory as Caribbean's foremost usability resource. In doing so we are able to provide a range of usability services, resources and facilities for the Caribbean IT industry, from a usability perspective.

We have established Caribbean's best-equipped usability testing facility within which we can determine how usable your product really is. Further, our experience in the usability field enables us to offer a range of services including the analysis, design, engineering and testing of IT systems.
