Condolences to Professor Dennis Pantin
Earlier today, Tuesday July 13th 2010, the Sustainable Economic Development Unit (SEDU) of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, lost our founder and Coordinator, Professor Dennis A. Pantin.
Professor Pantin was for many of us a true friend, a mentor and a teacher. One former student who only learnt of Prof. Pantin’s ill health yesterday, commented that, “… all the economics I ever really learnt was learnt in Prof’s office…”. That sums up one of the unique qualities of our Coordinator, of our friend.
We, his extended SEDU family, share the grief of his loss with his immediate family. We consider ourselves fortunate to have known him, to have shared in his wisdom and his kindness.
Today we salute Professor Dennis Pantin, a soldier and a true champion. We take partial comfort in the words of the song “…memories don’t leave like people do; they always stay with you…” Dennis’ memory will live on forever in our hearts and in the continued work of the SEDU.
Rest in Peace Prof.
